Dairy runway program - A launchpad for dairy entrepreneurs
USAgNet - 11/30/2023

Cornell University's Center for Regional Economic Advancement (CREA) has opened applications for its Dairy Runway program. This entrepreneurship initiative, designed for food innovators at the ideation stage of value-added dairy products, is a golden opportunity for those looking to revolutionize the dairy industry.

In partnership with the Northeast Dairy Foods Research Center (NDFRC), Dairy Runway offers a comprehensive virtual curriculum. Participants will gain insights into product concept and consumer discovery, prototype development, and receive business coaching. The program, supported by the New York State Dairy Promotion Order (NYSDPO), guides participants through assessing their products' market potential.

The first cohort of the program, which began in summer, saw ten entrepreneurs developing a range of dairy products, from flavored milks to savory yogurts. The upcoming second cohort, starting in late January 2024, will select up to 10 participants for a five-week course. This includes self-directed online learning, Zoom-based class meetings, and personalized instructor check-ins.

The program's aim is to increase the sales and utilization of milk and dairy ingredients from New York, renowned for its high-quality milk production. Participants who complete the course will gain access to Cornell’s food processing facilities, support from technical experts, and personalized coaching.

Dairy entrepreneurs in New York and New England, committed to using New York-produced cow milk, are eligible to apply. Applications close on January 8, 2024. Interested innovators can learn more and register for information sessions at Dairy Innovation Program.
