Disaster Recovery Centers Open on Long Island

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the opening of two new Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) in Nassau and Suffolk counties that will provide information, assistance and help for New Yorkers who were impacted by the storms and flooding caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida.

These in-person locations will have recovery specialists from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration on-site available to answer questions and provide information regarding the types of federal assistance homeowners, renters and business owners qualify for following the Major Disaster Declaration signed by President Biden on Sept. 5. Both Nassau County and Suffolk County were recently approved to be added to the Major Disaster Declaration for both Individual and Public Assistance. Personnel from state agencies such as the Department of Financial Services, Department of Health, Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, Office of Children and Family Services and Department of Labor will be stationed within the DRCs to connect impacted citizens with state programs or services that may be available to assist them in their recovery.

"Homeowners, renters and business owners on Long Island who were victims of flooding and storm-related damages can now visit these sites in-person and access numerous resources at the state and federal level to help them recover and rebuild," Governor Hochul said. "I am grateful for the support of FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell and her team on the ground who continue to work with the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services to get these critical Disaster Recovery Centers open and begin the recovery process for survivors."

The Nassau County DRC is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily and located at Michael J. Tully Park Physical Activity Center - 1801 Evergreen Ave, New Hyde Park.

The Suffolk County DRC is open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Rose Caracappa Senior Center - 739 NY-25A, Mt Sinai.

Suffolk County's DRC will be operating a mobile center before moving into its fixed location.

In addition to these new locations, Disaster Recovery Centers are currently open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily at:

- Medgar Evers College - 231 Crown Street, Brooklyn

- Queens College, Student Union - 152-45 Melbourne Ave, Flushing

- Hostos Community College - 450 Grand Concourse, E. Building C, Bronx

- Grinton I. Will Library - 1500 Central Park Ave, Yonkers

- Mamaroneck Village Court Clerk - 169 Mount Pleasant Ave, Mamaroneck

- College of Staten Island, Gymnasium Building R1 - 2800 Victory Blvd., Staten Island

Hochul previously announced the launch of the new online resource hub for impacted New Yorkers, available at https://www.governor.ny.gov/programs/governors-relief-and-response-resources. The hub provides information on available assistance programs and where to find services such as shelter and access to food. Information on the site will be updated as more resources for New Yorkers become available.

Survivors looking to access resources remotely may also register with FEMA using the FEMA App, online at www.disasterassistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362. Individuals who have a speech disability or hearing loss and use TTY should call 800-462-7585 directly. Those who use 711 or Video Relay Service may call 800-621-3362. These toll-free telephone numbers are operate from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. (local time) seven days a week until further notice. Operators are multilingual and those who use a relay service such as a videophone, InnoCaption or CapTel should update FEMA with their specific number assigned to that service.
