NYS Corn for Silage, Soybean Harvests Ahead of Average

According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service in New York, there were 4.5 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday.

Topsoil moisture supplies were 0 percent very short, 0 percent short, 43 percent adequate, and 57 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were 0 percent very short, 0 percent short, 66 percent adequate, and 34 percent surplus.

Corn harvested for grain was 6 percent, well behind last year and the 5-year average, both at 14 percent. Corn harvested for silage reached 87 percent, well ahead of last year's 69 percent and the 5-year average of 69 percent.

The New York soybean harvest, at 52 percent complete, was also ahead of both last year's 45 percent and the 5-year average of 32 percent.

Winter wheat planted was 72 percent, slightly behind last year's 76 percent and the 5-year average of 75 percent. Winter wheat emerged was reported at 29 percent.
