NYS Meat Animal Cash Receipts Down 8 Percent

Total 2015 cash receipts from marketings of meat animals decreased 8 percent to $397 million, according to Blair Smith, state statistician of USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service, New York Field Office. Cattle and calves accounted for 95 percent of this total and hogs and pigs accounted for 5 percent.

Cash receipts from marketings of cattle and calves decreased 8 percent from $411 million in 2014 to $377 million in 2015. All cattle and calf marketings totaled 238 million pounds in 2015, down 7 percent from 2014.

Cash receipts from hogs and pigs totaled $19.7 million during 2015, down 4 percent from 2014. Marketings totaled 35.1 million pounds in 2015, up 32 percent from 2014.

The 2015 gross income from cattle and calves and hogs and pigs for New York totaled $412 million, down 7 percent from 2014. Gross income for cattle and calves decreased 8 percent, and hogs and pigs decreased 4 percent from previous year's gross income.

Total 2015 production of cattle and calves and hogs and pigs for New York totaled 296 million pounds, up 6 percent from 2014. Production increased 3 percent for cattle and calves, and increased 27 percent for hogs and pigs.
