New York Drought Conditions Improving
New York Ag Connection - 04/25/2017
New York averaged 3 days suitable for field work last week.
This past week, drought conditions remained the same for the most part. Southeastern part of the state had a "D0 Abnormally Dry" classification and the southern part of Ulster County was classified as "D1 Moderate Drought." Long Island and the rest of the
state however were normal according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
The average weekly temperatures ranged from 0 to 7 degrees above normal .Weekly precipitation ranged from 0.43 to 2.47 inches.
Field work included nitrogen application, planting triticale, manure spreading, and other field preparation.
Some fruit losses were reported by producers as well as winter kill on alfalfa. Conditions were cool and there was some scattered frost.
Some low laying fields have an excessive amount of water. Plowing has started in the last week.
