Enter to Win a 'Cap' Creal Journalism Award

The New York State Agricultural Society is pleased to announce the 31st Annual "Cap" Creal Journalism Award, designed to recognize and encourage positive and accurate media coverage of the events,
people and issues related to New York State agriculture. Every year, the Agricultural Society awards journalism professionals with certificates and cash awards for their outstanding work covering agricultural
issues in New York State.
This annual recognition program was created in 1978 to inspire journalists to increase the coverage of the numerous positive aspects of the state's agricultural industry. The annual program is named for
Harold "Cap" Creal, a prominent agricultural leader and central New York farmer in his time.
Anyone can enter the "Cap" Creal Journalism Award Contest. You can either nominate yourself or you can nominate your favorite agricultural news story published or aired by someone else. Eligible entries
must cover agriculture in New York State and be published or aired in professional media that is available to the public (general or agricultural). Entries must be authored or produced by the person with the
byline or credit. Entries must be published or aired between September 1, 2009, and August 31, 2010. Only the person(s) with the byline or story credit will receive the award. The awards program is
broken into eleven specific categories, as follows:
Agricultural Media: Submissions in these categories must have been published or produced specifically for audiences involved in agriculture.
-- Single Print Article: A stand-alone article written by one or more people.
-- Print Series: More than one article written by the same person(s) on a single theme and published on different dates in the same media outlet.
-- Editorial: A single article that voices the author's opinion.
General Media: Submissions in these categories must have been published or produced for the general public, not an agricultural audience in a professional media outlet.
-- Single Print Article: A stand-alone article written by one or more people.
-- Print Series: More than one article written by the same person(s) on a single theme and published on different dates in the same media outlet.
-- Editorial: A single article that voices the author's opinion.
Electronic Media: Submissions in these categories must be produced exclusively for television or radio broadcast and meet the required time criteria below.
-- News Clip: A news segment that is less than 3 minutes in length.
-- News Feature: A news format program that is between 3 and 30 minutes in length.
Internet Media: Submissions in these categories must have been initially created for and published exclusively on the internet.
-- Print: Articles that could be part of a blog, as a website feature or on-line article.
-- Audio/Video: A news or information clip that is 10 minutes or less in length.
Photograph: Award given to the best photograph depicting agriculture, regardless of audience.
What is not eligible? News releases are not eligible. An entire newsletter, periodical or website is not eligible. However, an editorial, column, commentary, article or series within a newsletter, periodical or
website is eligible in the appropriate category.
Print and complete the award nomination form that can be found at http://www.nysagsociety.org/ and submit it with an original published or broadcast form of your entry. Limit one entry per person per each

This year's "Cap" Creal Journalism Awards will be presented at the New York State Agricultural Society's 179th Annual Forum luncheon at the Syracuse/Liverpool Holiday Inn on Thursday, January 6,
2011. These awards are sponsored by the New York State Agricultural Society and Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, Zeta Chapter at Cornell University.
