New York Apple Production Up 10 Percent

New York total apple production in 2017 was 1.30 billion pounds, up 10 percent from 2016. Growers expect to harvest 705 million pounds for fresh utilization and 575 million pounds for processing utilization. The 2017 value of utilized production of all New York apples was $343 million, up 6 percent from 2016.

Total 2017 grape production in New York was 187,000 tons, up 9 percent from the previous year. Growers expect to harvest 2 thousand tons for fresh utilization and 185,000 tons for processing utilization. The 2017 value of utilized production of all New York grapes was $69.1 million, up 8 percent from 2016.

New York total peach production in 2017 was 6.40 thousand tons, more than double the 2.75 thousand tons produced in 2016. The 2017 value of utilized peach production was $11.4 million, up from the $3.88 million in 2016.

United States utilized apple production in 2017 totaled 11.1 billion pounds, up 1 percent from 2016. Of the total utilized production, 7.71 billion pounds were for the fresh market and 3.35 billion pounds were for processing. The value of the crop totaled $3.55 billion, up 3 percent from the previous season, with an average annual price of 32.1 cents per pound.

Utilized grape production in the U.S. in 2017 totaled 7.36 million tons, down 4 percent from 2016. Of the total utilized production, 1.03 million tons were for the fresh market and 6.33 million tons were for processing.

Utilized U.S. peach production in 2017 totaled 690 thousand tons, down 11 percent from 2016. Of the total utilized production, 310 thousand tons were for the fresh market and 380,000 tons were for processing.
