NYS Farmers Concerned with Potato Leafhopper, Blight
New York Ag Connection - 07/25/2017

New York averaged 4.5 days suitable for field work last week.

Heavy rains and storms went through many areas of the state intermittently last week while some areas had a break, allowing for drying from the previous wet weather. The average weekly temperatures ranged from 1 degree below normal to 10 degrees above normal. Weekly precipitation ranged from 0.02 to 1.82 inches. Some areas had reports of tornadic activity and flooding.

Producers attempted to finish up the 1st cutting of hay while others are well into the second cut.

Corn and soybean crops have also been affected in many areas except where dry conditions have occurred. Farmers were also concerned with the wheat crop as well as other issues such as Potato Leafhopper and Northern Corn Leaf Blight.

Green beans are nearing completion on plantings. Blueberry season was reported as being in "full swing" while strawberries are complete.
