Dry, Hot Conditions Starting to Stress NYS Crops
New York Ag Connection - 07/17/2018

New York averaged 7 days suitable for field work.

Temperatures ranged from 2 degrees below normal to 5 degrees above normal. Weekly precipitation ranged from 0 to 3.35 inches.

Although temperatures were slightly cooler and rains increased in some areas compared to the previous week, the most recent U.S. Drought Monitor report reflected 8 counties in upstate New York that were classified as having moderate drought conditions with a large portion of the remainder of the state having abnormally dry conditions.

Reports from the field indicated that in some areas, dry, hot conditions were beginning to negatively impact corn, soybeans, and other crops causing some concern of crop damage.

Hay crops have been less than expected. Wheat and pea harvest continued this past week.
