N.Y. Farmers Begin Third-Cutting Alfalfa Hay

According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service in New York, there were 5.5 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday.

Topsoil moisture supplies were 18 percent very short, 30 percent short, 43 percent adequate, and 9 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were 17 percent very short, 23 percent short, 55 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus.

Pasture conditions ranged from 12 percent very poor, 14 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 35 percent good, and 6 percent excellent.

Third cutting of alfalfa hay was 16 percent complete, while other farmers reported their second cutting was 74 percent complete.
