Lynyrd Skynyrd, Stephen Marley at Great New York State Fair
New York Ag Connection - 08/21/2017

The band allmusic.com calls "the definitive Southern rock band," Lynyrd Skynyrd returns to the Great New York State Fair at 1 p.m. Aug. 27 for what should be a blistering rock show, while reggae master and Grammy award winner Stephen Marley performs on Chevy Court at 2 p.m. Aug. 26.

The legacy began more than four decades ago in Jacksonville, Fla., and halted for a decade by the 1977 plane crash that killed three band members, including Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines. Since then, the band tragically lost Allen Collins, Leon Wilkeson and Huey Thomasson, yet Lynyrd Skynyrd rocks on with original member Gary Rossington joined by Johnny Van Zant, Rickey Medlock, Mark "Sparky" Matejka, Michael Cartellone, Johnny Colt, Peter Keys, Dale Krantz Rossington and Carol Chase. With a catalog of over 60 albums, sales beyond 30 million worldwide and their beloved classic American rock anthem "Sweet Home Alabama" having over two million downloaded ringtones, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band Lynyrd Skynyrd remains a cultural icon that appeals to all generations.

Stephen "Ragga" Marley is the second eldest son of reggae legend Bob Marley and Rita Marley. He was raised in Kingston, Jamaica, and started singing professionally at seven-years old with his elder siblings Ziggy, Sharon and Cedella as The Melody Makers. The singer, songwriter, musician and producer has consecutively landed #1 on the U.S. Billboard Reggae Album Chart for all his solo albums and has earned eight Grammys for Best Reggae Album. He won this accolade as a solo artist for albums "Mind Control," "Mind Control Acoustic" and "Revelation Part I: The Root of Life," as producer for Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley's "Half Way Tree" and "Welcome To Jamrock" and as a member of Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers for "Conscious Party," "One Bright Day" and "Fallen Is Babylon."

"We are very excited to have artists of the stature of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Stephen Marley join our lineup. I believe these are 'must-see' shows and know that people are going to enjoy them," said Troy Waffner, Acting Fair Director.

This will be the sixth appearance at the Fair for Lynyrd Skynyrd and the debut for Stephen Marley as a lead performer, though he was part of Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers when the band performed at the Fair in 1989.

Concerts at Chevy Court are sponsored by Chevrolet.
